I am a computer scientist and mathematician. My academic background is primarily in algorithms, especially in geometry and topology, with links to machine learning and industrial application. My industrial background is in the machine and factory automation industry.

In 2022 I started the Josef Ressel Centre for Intelligent and Secure
Industrial
Automation,
where we do research on a digital assistant for industrial machines with the
research fields system architectures, artificial intelligence and cyber
security for operational technology.

In 2019 I joined the Salzburg University of Applied
Sciences to become a professor in the
mechatronics and robotics group. I am teaching and researching in the
field of modern industrial informatics. I am conducting research projects in
the interplay of industrial automation and system architectures, artificial
intelligence and security.

In 2015–2019 I worked at B&R Industrial
Automation, where I built up a team of R&D
engineers with a focus on algorithms and mathematics. I was responsible for the
PLC software operating a novel type of a transport system,
ACOPOStrak, for which I initially developed the
concepts and architectures, mathematical models and core algorithms. It puts a
link between servo motion control, robotics and logistics and we published a
dozen patents on it.

I was a Postdoc researcher at the IST Austria
(Institute of Science and Technology Austria) in the group of Herbert
Edelsbrunner in
the years 2013–2015 and worked in computational topology and topological
machine learning. In particular, we put a bridge between kernel-based machine
learning and persistent homology.

I had a Senior Scientist position at the Department of Mathematics (2012) at
the University of Salzburg and I was a Postdoc at
Martin Held's Computational Geometry and Applications
Lab (2011–2012) at the Department
of Computer Sciences at the University of
Salzburg. My work concentrated on theory and applications of various skeleton
structures like Voronoi diagrams and straight skeletons. I am the author of the
commercial software packages ArcVroni and
Stalgo.
I finished my Doctoral studies in 2011 at the Department of Computer Sciences at the University of Salzburg. Furthermore, I received a Master degree in Mathematics, a Master degree (Dipl.-Ing.) in Computer Science, a Bachelor degree in Mathematics and a Bachelor degree in Computer Science in the years 2009, 2008, 2007 and 2006.

Science is what we understand well enough to explain to a computer.
Art is everything else we do.
